Percent Plan Model for Microsoft Project

The Percent Plan Model applies for Microsofot Project 2010, 2013 and 2016.

The PPM model allows the Project Managers to track the progress of their projects against the baseline plan.

The PPM model performs the calculation for the % Plan custom field which is compatible and comparable with the % Complete field. The PPM model also generates a performance index based on those two parameters for each task in the project and includes more indicators and views.

If you want to use the Microsoft Project in a simple way for planning and tracking your projects, then you are in the right place

How this model will help you to manage your projects?

  • You will know, using traffic lights indicators, the current state of your project, at any moment, compared to the baseline.
  • You will not need to use complex formulas neither hard interpretations of the data.
  • You could generate reports that show the project status to you and to the stakeholders. Thanks to the Performance Index (PI) you will know the status for every task, deliverable, phase and the project as a whole.
  • You will be able to manage your project by exception, identifying the tasks that are running as planned, ahead the plan or late.

Examples of the Percent Plan Model

The next images illustrate two examples of what you will get with the Percent Plan Model.

In the first image, you can see a project that is running according to the plan. Please observe how the % Plan (a custom field calculated by the model) is equal to the % Complete at every level of the tasks structure, even at the project summary task (task 0). The PI g (Performance Indicator) field is green for all tasks.

In the next image, the project has variations compared to the baseline. The % Complete is different to the % Plan in some tasks and the Progress Var (Progress variation) and the PI g (Performance Indicator) fields show the deviation.
